For quite some time now, we are engaged with the Amber Room or Amber Chamber. Before WWII the Amber Room in the Catherine palace of Tsarskoye Selo near Saint Petersburg, Russia is a complete chamber decoration of amber panels with gold leaf and mirrors. Due to its singular beauty, it was sometimes dubbed the "Eighth Wonder of the World". Together with the Amber Room, many valuables from several plundered museums, valuables from public enemies, parts of the so called "Prussenschatz" and the unique ikon treasure of the Ukraine, namely 65 boxes with paintings from Charkow and Kiev, were lost too. The Amber Room was looted during WWII by the Nazi Erich Koch. Since 1928 he was the so called "Gauleiter" , the Head of the enclosed district of East Prussia. After the "Machtergreifung" in 1933, the takeover of power by the Nazis, he became the appointed head of this province, the "Oberpraesident". The Amber Room was brought to Königsberg, since 1946 called Kaliningrad. Till the end of WWI Erich Koch had two places where he lived and worked, Königsberg and Wuppertal. He was born and raised in Elberfeld, today part of the City of Wuppertal, Western Germany. Erich Koch had direct access to headquarters and to the supreme command of the Nazis, and therefore he was well informed about the military circumstances. He was aware of the day when the Red Army marched in Königsberg. This person was definitely a criminal, but he wasn´t dumb. Why should he stash the stolen goods somewhere in East Prussia or at a place in Germany where he wasn´t familiar with? Erich Koch intended to make a good living of it and don´t make a donation to any organization. His payment to his trust at Königsberg in 1938 in the amount of 297 million Reichsmark shows the dimension.
Other scientists and professionals look everywhere for the objects, but we think the people thought wrong. We put the question to ourselves, where would we have hidden these objects? We would store the objects at a place where we´re familar with, the city where we were born and grown up.
We brought the whole affair to the City Guidance of Wuppertal and receive noteworthy support. Unfortunately the city treasury is empty and the number of possible places, like buildings and bunker , is huge (approx. 400 ), so money is very short.
Therefore, we turn to you, with the request for financial help and support!
Please do not hesitate to contact us. We would be glad to answer any questions and provide you with further information at any time
